Rooted in Kiln Tradition

Before JR became a brand, its legacy had already been shaped across generations in Jingdezhen — where the family once crafted fine porcelain for the Qing imperial court. This deep-rooted tradition in ceramic artistry laid the foundation for what would become JR’s unique voice.

From these imperial origins, the studio gradually turned its focus to crystalline glaze — a challenging technique once reserved for royalty. Known for its spontaneous crystal blooms and demanding firing process, crystalline glaze became the heart of JR’s exploration. Today, JR continues this legacy, blending historical craftsmanship with modern aesthetics to create collectible tableware that transcends function.

From Craft to Concept: The Birth of JR

JR’s founder, K.J., is a seasoned ceramic artist who spent years immersed in the rich heritage of Jingdezhen. With a deep understanding of ceramic art, K.J. later traveled abroad for further study, where the collision of Eastern and Western cultures sparked a new vision — to integrate traditional Chinese ceramic techniques with Western dining aesthetics.

This encounter gave birth to more than just a product; it sparked the creation of JR as a brand. Each JR piece blends artistry with functionality, transforming ancient kiln traditions into contemporary porcelain expressions, made to elevate modern table settings with heritage, precision, and timeless form.

The Essence of Crystalline Glaze

During high-temperature firing at around 1300°C, natural crystals form spontaneously within the glaze, each developing unique shapes and patterns depending on the thickness, placement, and chemistry involved.

Even under identical conditions, no two firings yield the same result.

Every JR piece is a singular creation — no repetitions, no replicas.

This rare effect demands expert control over glaze and temperature, but also embraces the element of chance. It is this balance of mastery and unpredictability that defines the soul of JR.

Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen, located in Jiangxi Province, China, is a millennium-old city renowned for its exquisite ceramic craftsmanship. Since the Song Dynasty, Jingdezhen has been the production base for imperial porcelain, earning the title of Porcelain Capital. Its ceramics are celebrated for their superb craftsmanship, fine texture, and unique glazes. The ceramic culture of Jingdezhen not only showcases the brilliance of traditional Chinese art but also continues to thrive through modern innovations.

Historical Origins

Jingdezhen's ceramic history dates back to the 1st century, reaching new heights during the Tang and Song dynasties. Iconic creations such as the Qingbai porcelain of the Song Dynasty, blue and white porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty, and multicolored porcelain of the Ming and Qing dynasties have become classics in the world of ceramics.

Craftsmanship

Jingdezhen ceramics are famed for their intricate production process, from clay selection and shaping to glazing and firing. The transformation of glaze and texture during high-temperature firing adds an irreplicable artistic charm to each piece.
