Hand-cut Edo Kiriko crystal glass featuring a layered diamond pattern with fine structural detail.
The pattern unfolds from the base in a quiet progression. Tightly set diamond cuts gather near the bottom, forming a dense field that gradually opens as it rises. As the structure expands, each intersection is marked by a subtle cross detail, creating moments where light gathers and shifts before moving outward again.
This change in scale influences how light behaves across the glass. Smaller cuts concentrate reflections near the base, while larger facets allow light to open and spread as it moves upward. The pattern is constructed with attention to spacing and proportion, ensuring continuity throughout the surface.
The overall form carries depth through its layered structure, with detail emerging gradually as the glass is observed.
Edo Kiriko Hand-Cut Lattice Crystal Whiskey Glass
Mastery Carved into Every Facet
Edo Kiriko preserves a 190-year Tokyo legacy, where master artisans hand-cut Japanese crystal whiskey glasses through a rigorous six-step process. Using traditional grit wheels instead of industrial molds, we transform raw crystal into sharp, light-refracting prisms that define authentic craftsmanship.
The Breath of Life - Blowing
Molten glass is heated to over 1500°C and hand-blown into form. For colored pieces, multiple layers are fused together and annealed for more than 16 hours to ensure strength and stability.
The Blueprint - Marking
Reference lines are drawn by hand, creating a grid that guides every future cut.
The First Cut - Rough Carving
Guided by years of intuition rather than machines, the artisan uses a coarse diamond wheel to carve the initial bold patterns. This stage requires immense physical strength and a steady hand to define the soul of the design.
Refining the Spirit - Fine Carving
Switching to finer grinding wheels and natural whetstones, the craftsman meticulously refines every line. This stage transforms raw cuts into delicate, light-refracting textures.
Precision Detailing - Detailing
The final intricate motifs are hand-carved with microscopic precision. This is where the artisan’s true skill shines—creating a mesmerizing play of light that defines authentic Edo Kiriko.
The Final Glow - Hand-Polishing
Instead of chemical dipping, we use traditional rubber and cloth wheels with specialized polishing compounds. This labor-intensive manual polish preserves the sharp edges of the carvings while bestowing the glass with its signature brilliant luster.
Each JR piece is uniquely hand-blown and sculpted. Subtle ripples, tiny bubbles, or pattern variations are not flaws—they are the "fingerprints" of the master craftsman, authenticating a truly handmade work of art.
