Manten, meaning “a sky filled from end to end,” gives its name to this Edo Kiriko hand-cut crystal whiskey glass covered in an intricate field of star-like points and intersecting geometry.
The dense cutting creates a different reflection at almost every angle. Small radiating motifs catch concentrated flashes of light, while the surrounding diamond-shaped facets carry those reflections across the clear crystal, giving the pattern remarkable depth without the use of color.
When filled with whiskey, the transparent carving allows amber and gold tones to appear behind the intricate pattern. Light gathers within the deeper cuts and breaks into smaller highlights across the surface, creating a richer, warmer expression of the design during evening pours.

The Breath of Life - Blowing
Molten glass is heated to over 1500°C and hand-blown into form. For colored pieces, multiple layers are fused together and annealed for more than 16 hours to ensure strength and stability.

The First Cut - Rough Carving
